Google Acquired "The Dealmap"To offer online bargain services in three US cities, Google has acquired a company named as “The Dealmap” which aggregates local deals. The Dealmap, founded in May 2010, does not offer it’s own deals but brings a lot of local offers at same place and it grew to more than two million users during its first year.

Financial terms were not disclosed but a Google spokeswoman said “We are impressed with what The Dealmap team has accomplished and excited to welcome them to Google”. She also added “We’ve been thrilled with the early success of our commerce offerings, and we think they can help us build even better products and services for consumers and merchants.”

To compete with Chicago based online discount star Groupon, Google is currently offering bargains in New York, Portland and San Francisco and planning to expand Google offers to Austin, Texas, Boston, Denver, Seattle and Washington.

Groupon offers online coupons for discount for a wide range of consumer goods and services and claims to have more than 83 million subscribers. It’s quite interesting to add that the rival of Google Offers, Groupon rejected a reported $5 billion takeover offer from Google last year and has filed for an IPO seeking to raise as much as $750 million.

Additionally, other business competitor of Google, Facebook has already started offering daily bargains in five US cities. There is so much compitition but The Dealmap is quite excited about this deal.

The Dealmap said, “We’re passionate about helping people save money while having great local experiences, and in Google we’ve found the perfect partner that shares this passion, as well as our vision and strategy.”

“We believe that joining Google will help us innovate in new and unexplored areas of commerce,” It added.

It’s quite interesting for me to see the race between The Internet Giant which bought a local bargain hit and The Online Discount Giant…….Guess Who will win ?
