What Happens In An Internet Minute?
We all are living in internet era. Everything is going online. Our lifestyle has changed drastically. Not long ago, everyone was renting out CDs/DVDs to watch movies. Now we have moved to online HD videos. YouTube and other video streaming services are providing high quality content and users have increased internet speed to enjoy all the content without any hiccup. Everyone is sharing photos on Facebook, Videos on YouTube and Files and Documents on file sharing services. Google Docs and Sky Drive have changed the way to create documents, most of the times documents are created and shared online only. After Cloud Computing everyone is going for online storage. Online data backup services like DropBox are gaining more and more popularity. In short, internet usage has grown massively in last decades. Internet World Stats presented some mind blowing statistics on no of internet users at end of 2011. The growth is simply phenomenal. Have a look at the data and graphs.
- Every minute 30 hours of videos is uploaded on YouTube. One million videos are being watched every minute.
- Every minute more than 2 million queries are searched on Google
- Every minute 6 million Facebook pages are viewed. More than 277,000 people login on Facebook every minute.
There are many more interesting facts but what took my interest was the amount of data transferred every minute. 639800 GBs of Global IP Data is transferred every minute. Whoa!! That’s a seriously huge number. Where are we heading? How much information are we producing? And how much of that is actually useful?
