There has been a lot of hype around Motorola Moto G due to its price tag and the features that it offers. Coming to the features, there is a 4.3 inch HD IPS LCD screen, a 5MP camera and a quad-core processor. It comes with 1GB of RAM and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage but there’s no microSD card slot. There is also an HD 1.3MP camera at the front. Most importantly, it comes with dual SIM card slots, which is very important for Indian market. Other than this, there are other usual connectivity features; Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi n, microUSB. There’s also USB Host so you can connect flash drives through OTG adapters. However, an update to Android 4.4 KitKat would disable that.

Thanks to its relatively smaller form factor and rubbery finish on the back, it is very comfortable to hold and one handed operation is a possible. Just like the Moto X, there’s a small dimple at the back of the device where you can rest your finger and that gives a sense of grip when holding the device that way. The device feels very solidly built. The back cover is removable but the battery isn’t.

The 4.3 inch screen is one of the best in its price range. The colours look vivid and the blacks look very deep. There’s almost no colour shift even when looking from extreme angles. This screen is better than the one on the Nexus 4. Also, we have to mention this. The screen surface feels very very smooth, thanks to Gorilla Glass 3.

The 5MP camera is good. There’s LED flash. It focuses fast and the camera interface is quite easy to understand. To click an image, just click on the screen. To record video, just click the video icon. Swipe from the left to show the menu and swipe from the right to view previously shot images or videos. Image quality is very good. The colours are captured accurately and there is very little noise. The video quality isn’t that great though. The frame rate is smooth but the level of details isn’t as good as its images. There’s also a slow motion video mode which captures 720p videos in 60 fps. The quality of slow motion videos isn’t as great as the ones shot using iPhone 5S or Galaxy Note 3, but it’s still great that Motorola is offering this feature in mid-level price range.

The performance is very good. It comes with 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM. The UI feels very smooth, thanks to great optimisation done by Motorola. You won’t notice any difference in using a Nexus 4, Galaxy S3 or the Moto G, well almost no difference. They all score almost equally in benchmarks. In spite of similar score, the Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 are better than Moto G in handling high end games, thanks to better GPU.

Android 4.3 comes pre-installed and Motorola is pushing out Android 4.4 KitKat update very soon. The UI is completely stock. There are some extra features such as Motorola Assist, Motorola Migrate, Sleep Mode, Battery Saver Mode, etc. You can set which SIM should be prioritised for calls, texts and Internet.

Price of Moto G is the USP for this device. 8 GB Moto G is available at 12499 at flipkart while 16 GB Moto G is available at flipkart for 13999.

The battery life is really great. It comes with 2070 mAh battery. Even with relatively heavy usage, it lasted over a day and a half for me so I think that it can last at least 2 days with normal usage. According to me, the Moto G is not only the best Android but the best smartphone in the entire 10,000 to 20,000 rupee price range. Check the video review
