Save Indian Comics : An Initiative By MySmartPrice
Save Indian Comics is an initiative by MySmartPrice to bolster the declining comic industry in the country. From Hawaldar Bahadur to Doga, the Indian comic scene has seen a host of great characters and storylines. It’s an effort to bring back the old childhood memories, to relive those magic moments which most of us had while holding our first comics.
This initiative started during a discussion between comics lovers in our office. We were planning which cosplayer should be a part from our team for Comic Con 2014 in Delhi and eventually we decided to go for a full-fledged campaign instead of just sending one or two cosplayers. Thus the journey began, the idea flourished and portal for Save Indian Comics was launched. This portal has articles about all your favourite comic characters, fan posts and most important thing an online petition to Save Indian Comics and help Indian comics industry to grow.
A team consisting of three members Pradyumndev Jodha, Paras Katoch and Yashwant Golecha (I) represented the cause in Comic Con. Our team mates played roles of Doga, Dhruv, Crook Bond, Bankelal and Maharaj Vikram Singh (Mota Mucchad). Three fun filled days with tremendous amount of love and support from Indian Comics fans. A lot of people had nostalgic feelings seeing the posters of old and rare Indian comics and initiative to bring back the old super heroes. It was a great motivation for us to continue the efforts we were putting in.
I grew up reading comics as most of the kids of my time. It started with Chacha Chaudhary and with time I got introduced to Nagraj and Dhruv. Afterwards the list kept on growing with Doga, Bheriya, Shakti, Parmanu, Tausi, Jambu, Ashwaraj and many more. So getting associated with this cause was like spending time with my first love again. During Comic Con I got a chance to meet and interact with Sanjay Gupta Sir and Anupam Sinha Sir, creators of Nagraj, Dhruv and other super heroes from Raj Comics. It was like a dream come true.
I met a lot of new Indian Publication House owners and artists in the event. Ravanayan from Holy Cow Publications, Parshu by Orange Radius, Meta Desi Comics are just to name a few. A special mentioning is necessary for our neighbours in the event Team India Bobbles. Those three days in Comic Con became more enjoyable with help of their team. Raj Kiran, Prateek, Preeti, Dev, Digant and other members of India Bobbles were a great support. They sell the best range of desi bobble heads, figurines and scale models designed in India.
This is just the beginning and this initiative has a long way to go. It needs support from all comic fans in Indian to help and grow the Indian Comics Industry and motivate more and more artists to join the brigade. So keep buying and reading comics, stop piracy and spread the love.
